I’m thrilled to be working on this special one-hour edition celebrating the evolution One on One with Jane Mitchell and the many great and special athletes who have opened their homes and their hearts to me and, ultimately to you, the fans and viewers.
I could say “it’s hard to believe it’s been 15 seasons of One on One,” but then I look at each file folder of scripts, each show on the shelf, and realize how much we all have experienced since the beginning of Channel 4 San Diego and One on One which debuted April 7, 1997, with Ken Caminiti. Wow.
This special will have it all: best moments including laughter, tears, and poignant comments from the in-depth interviews at their homes or on-location shoots such as hunting with Ryan Klesko and kayaking with Tim Dwight. From the first edition featuring Cammy, through Tony Gwynn’s Road to Cooperstown, and past interviews with sports icons Junior Seau, LaDainian Tomlinson and Ted Williams, we will dip into the archives to remind ourselves of the stellar athletes who have come through our city and become part of the fabric of our community.
My long-time Associate Producer Michelle Mattox will co-produce this extravaganza with me, and my creative partner Dan Roper will once again take the lead on editing the show. We’ll highlight our favorite moments and the Fans’ #1 pick decided from surveys and an interactive poll! We want your input so stay in touch about how you can voice your opinions – including being interviewed for the show!
My new book is called One on One-- My Journey with Hall of Famers, Fan Favorites and Rising Stars. But this 100th show will share how One on One has been OUR Journey. Hear past guests reflect on what it was like to be interviewed, have their story revealed to fans, and what they learned about others and, sometimes, about themselves. Some will even turn the tables on me to ask me questions. What I use, however, is still up to me!
